Upgrade your dated black and white Mitsubishi Electric controller – PAR-21 to PAR33

Replace the old PAR 21 with a new backlit PAR 33

If you own an older Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning unit then you might want to upgrade the look and feel of the controller without breaking the bank. For around $400 you can have the controller upgraded from the old style PAR-21 to a new backlit, easy to use PAR-33. This new controller boasts easy to use scheduling and timer settings as will as a user interface much nicer than the older style PAR-21.

Compatibility to upgrade is fine as long as your current air conditioning controller is a PAR-20 or PAR-21. Controllers old than this cannot be upgraded as the indoor unit cannot communicate with the new PAR-33 controller.

Some of the new Features and Benefits

Main features of the new PAR-33 include:
  • Backlit LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
    • Full dot backlit LCD makes it easy to see and control units.
  • Large, easy-to-see display
    • Full-dot LCD display with large characters for easy viewing
    • Adjustable screen contrast
    • Simple button arrangement
  • Buttons are arranged according to usage to allow for intuitive use
    • Frequently used buttons are larger than others for easier identification.

Other new benefits include:

Auto Return Function

This function helps to maintain the indoor temperature at the required level. Even if the temperature setting is changed during operation, the set temperature automatically returns to the originally preset temperature after a certain amount of time. It is possible to set the required temperature for a limited time (30-120 min. in 10-minute increments).

Night Setback Feature

To prevent excessive temperature rise or drop, this controller starts heating operation when the controller is stopped but the room temperature drops below the preset lower limit temperature. Also, this control starts cooling operation when the controller is stopped but the room temperature rises above the preset upper limit temperature. This prevents your home getting too cold overnight in Winter or too hot in Summer.

Scheduling operation and timers

The new PAR-33 controller has a much easier to use, functional timer operation. This includes an On/Off Timer, Auto Off Timer or a Weekly Timer. The On/Off Timer can be set in 5 minute increments to turn the unit on or off at a certain time. The Auto Off feature allows you to set the unit to turn itself off after a specified time frame. The Weekly Timer can be programmed to turn the unit on and/or off at the same time every day. For example, you can set it to switch on at 6am and off at 9am so the house is warm as you leave for work but does not run all day.

Temperature Range Restriction

This function allows you to limit the maximum and minimum temperature settings preventing overheating or overcooling. This allows you to set the minimum and maximum temperature the controller can be set to Especially useful for the unknown family member who keeps setting the temperature to 30 every morning!

In a nutshell

  • Simple and cheap upgrade which modernises the look and feel
  • Much nicer user experience including easy to set scheduling and timers
  • Some new energy saving modes available
