Fault finding and repairs done safely and properly
Electrical faults are stressful because you can’t see what’s wrong and you know the stakes. Lights flickering, a safety switch that won’t stay on, power points that have stopped working: each of these has a cause, and finding it properly is the whole job.
T&K Airpower’s electricians have been working in Adelaide homes since 1996. Our diagnostic work is trusted by the manufacturers we hold warranty authorisations for, because we find the actual fault and fix it at the source. No band-aids, no guesswork.
What it Costs
Our call-out and fault-finding visit is $99.00. Once we’ve found the fault, you get a fixed price for the repair before any work starts. You approve it, then we do the work. The price we agree on is the price you pay.
What Happens When Our Electrician Arrives
- We listen first. When did it start, what changed, which circuits are affected. The history usually narrows the search.
- We test, not guess. Safety switch and circuit testing, insulation resistance where needed, and a proper look at the switchboard. Faults get found, not assumed.
- We explain what we found. Plain English, with the why. If something else needs attention but isn’t urgent, we’ll tell you that honestly and let you decide.
- Fixed price, then the work. Approved before we start.
- Guaranteed workmanship.
The Work We Do
- Fault finding: tripping safety switches, dead circuits, flickering lights
- Power point repairs, replacements and new installations
- Lighting repairs and LED upgrades
- Switchboard upgrades, including replacing old ceramic fuses with modern circuit protection
- Smoke alarm installation, testing and replacement
- Safety switch (RCD) installation and testing
- Repairs after water damage or storm damage, including insurance work
A lot of our work is in Adelaide’s older housing stock, where original wiring, ageing switchboards and decades of add-ons meet modern appliance loads. That’s careful work, and it’s the kind we like.
What We Repair
If something doesn’t feel right electrically, we’ll investigate it properly and explain what’s needed to make it safe.
Repair First - Upgrade Only When It Makes Sense
Not every electrical issue requires a full upgrade. In many cases, targeted repairs can restore safe operation without unnecessary work.
Where an upgrade is required, such as a switchboard no longer meeting safety standards, we’ll explain why, outline your options clearly, and recommend the most sensible path forward. No pressure. Just clear advice based on safety and long-term reliability.
Signs You May Need Electrical Repairs
One Team For the Electrical Fault AND the Air Conditioner
Here’s something almost no other Adelaide electrician can offer: our technicians are qualified in both electrical and refrigeration work. If your “electrical fault” turns out to involve the air conditioner, or your air conditioner problem turns out to be the circuit feeding it, the same visit covers both. One call-out, one diagnosis, one fix.
If you’re experiencing any of these, it’s worth having the issue checked before it becomes a safety concern.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do domestic electrical repairs cost in Adelaide?
Our call-out and fault-finding visit is $99.00. After diagnosis you get a fixed price for the repair before any work starts, so the total is agreed upfront rather than running on an hourly clock.
Why does my safety switch keep tripping?
A safety switch trips because it’s detecting current leaking somewhere it shouldn’t be. Common culprits are a faulty appliance, moisture in an outdoor power point or light fitting, damaged wiring, or a fault in a fixed appliance like a hot water unit or air conditioner. The switch is doing its job; the trick is finding what it’s reacting to, and that’s systematic testing, not trial and error.
Do you provide quotes before attending?
No. Electrical repairs require proper fault finding to ensure the issue is identified correctly and repaired safely. We inspect the system onsite before providing advice or pricing, so problems aren’t misdiagnosed or temporarily patched.
Are electrical faults dangerous if left unresolved?
They can be. Some electrical faults pose immediate safety risks, while others develop gradually over time. Issues such as tripping circuits, flickering lights, burning smells or warm power points should be checked promptly to reduce the risk of damage or fire.
Do you work in older Adelaide homes?
Yes. Many of the homes we work in are older and require careful fault finding and safety-focused repairs. Older wiring, switchboards and electrical layouts often need a more methodical approach to ensure repairs meet current safety standards.
Do you handle urgent or emergency electrical repairs?
Where possible, we prioritise urgent electrical faults, particularly those involving safety concerns or loss of power. Availability can vary, but we aim to respond promptly and communicate clearly about next steps.
Are your electricians licensed and insured?
Yes. All electrical work is carried out by licensed professionals and completed in accordance with current electrical regulations and safety standards.
Do electrical repairs always require upgrades?
No. Many electrical issues can be resolved with targeted repairs. Where an upgrade is required, such as a switchboard no longer meeting safety standards, we’ll explain why, outline your options clearly, and recommend the most sensible solution.
Can you repair electrical issues without damaging walls or ceilings?
Where possible, yes. We take care to minimise disruption and only access areas necessary to diagnose and repair the issue properly. If further access is required, we’ll explain this before proceeding.
How soon can you attend electrical faults?
We aim to prioritise urgent safety issues as soon as possible. Booking earlier in the day improves day-of availability.
What’s the first step if I need an electrical repair?
The first step is to book an inspection. We’ll attend your home, diagnose the issue properly, and explain the safest and most appropriate way forward.
Can you repair electrical issues in older homes?
Yes – we’re experienced with older Adelaide homes and take the time to diagnose and repair issues safely and correctly.
Half my power points have stopped working. What's going on?
Usually a single circuit has gone down: a tripped breaker, a blown fuse on an older board, or a connection that has worked loose somewhere on that circuit. Loose connections generate heat, so this one is worth having looked at promptly rather than living with.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade?
If your board still has ceramic fuses, no safety switches, or it trips constantly under normal use, it’s worth assessing. Older boards were built for a fraction of the load a modern household puts through them. We inspect the board, tell you honestly whether it needs upgrading now, soon, or not yet, and quote a fixed price if it does. More detail on our switchboard upgrades page.
Are my smoke alarms compliant? How often should they be replaced?
Smoke alarms have a service life of ten years from manufacture, and the date is printed on the unit. In South Australia, homes are required to have working smoke alarms, and the rules on type and placement depend on when the home was built or sold. We test what you have, tell you whether it meets the requirements, and replace what doesn’t.
My house is old. Is the wiring dangerous?
Age alone doesn’t make wiring dangerous, but certain things do: degraded insulation, overloaded circuits, DIY additions over the years, and connections that have worked loose. Many older Adelaide homes are perfectly safe; some have problems hiding behind the walls. An electrical safety inspection gives you a straight answer either way. See our electrical safety and compliance page.
Can you fix small jobs, or only big ones?
Both. A single power point, one light fitting, a safety switch test: we do them. Small electrical jobs done properly beat small electrical jobs done by whoever was cheapest.
Can the same technician look at my air conditioner and my electrical fault?
Yes, and we’re one of the few companies in Adelaide where that’s true. Our technicians are qualified in both trades, so a fault that sits between the air conditioner and the circuit feeding it gets diagnosed in one visit instead of two trades pointing at each other.
